Priorities of Lithuania's presidency over the European Union Council and Ukrainian presidency over the Organization of Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) were discussed in a telephone conversation between Linkevičius and Leonid Kozhara in a telephone conversation on Monday.

"Linkevičius emphasized that Lithuania would continue its consistent support to Ukraine's Euro-integration objectives and share its experience of EU integration," the Lithuanian Foreign Ministry said in a press release.

The Lithuanian diplomacy chief also expressed "hope that priorities of Ukraine's OSCE presidency would ensure continuity of the agenda of the earlier Lithuanian and Irish presidencies," the ministry said.

Linkevičius also congratulated his Ukrainian colleague on his 50-year birthday.

Kozhara was appointed to head the Foreign Ministry on December 24 last year, after serving as deputy chairman of the Ukrainian parliamentary Foreign Affairs Committee.

The EU has criticized Ukraine's administration for persecution of political opponents, at the same time fearing extensive Russian influence upon Ukraine. Moscow has urged Kiev to join the Eurasia Customs Union.
