The MPs believe the pardon "might encourage similar crimes, runs counter to international legal norms, and might disrupt the Azerbaijani-Armenian reconciliation process in an attempt to resolve the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict," the statement reads.
It was signed by Algis Kašėta and Dalia Kuodytė, members of the Liberal Movement, conservative MPs Kęstutis Masiulis and Petras Luomanas, as well as Dangutė Mikutienė, member of the Labor Party, the Seimas Public Relations Unit said on Monday.
On 31 August, Hungary handed over to Baku Safarov who had been sentenced to life imprisonment in Budapest without the right to be pardoned. He killed Armenian officer Gurgen Margarian, 30, at a Budapest military academy in 2004.
Nevertheless, Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev pardoned him the same day he was extradited.
Armenia and Azerbaijan waged a bloody war in the 1990s over the region of Nagorno-Karabakh.
