Currently serving in the Lithuanian army's Logistics Command, the officer will serve in a logistics unit stationed at the Mali capital Bamako's airport as an officer in charge of transportation operation control.

The Lithuanian officer is scheduled to serve in the mission until the end of January 2014, according to the Lithuanian Ministry of National Defense.

Two Lithuanian army instructors have served in the EU training mission in Mali since April in a military unit formed by the Nordic and Baltic countries.

The EU training mission in Mali is the first African mission for Lithuanian troops. It is planned that Lithuanian troops will serve in the mission until the middle of 2014 when the mission mandate ends.
