Lithuanian president named honorary doctor of Georgetown University

Lithuania's President Dalia Grybauskaitė has been awarded the title of honorary doctor of Georgetown University.

Grybauskaitė will receive the regalia at a ceremony in Washington D.C. on May 18, her press service informs.

According to the congratulatory message from Georgetown University, the Lithuanian president is awarded for her "transparency, truth and responsibility." The title is awarded to outstanding individuals and leaders in their respective fields, namely, prominent politicians, scientists, writers, and artists.

The oldest university in the US, Georgetown University is the biggest university of international relations in the world. The Lithuanian president studied at the university in 1992.

Honorary doctors of Georgetown University include former American presidents Bill Clinton and Ronald Reagan, former United Nations secretaries general Kofi Annan and Boutros Boutros-Ghali, European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso, former German chancellor Helmut Kohl, former US secretary of state Madeleine Albright, Queen of Spain Sofia, etc.
