Lithuanian Prime Minister congratulates Latvia on euro entry nod from European Commission

Lithuania’s Prime Minister has congratulated Latvia, which on Wednesday won approval from the European Commission (EC) to join the euro zone in 2014.

Algirdas Butkevičius hopes that Lithuania will meet the Maastricht criteria inext year and will join the euro zone in 2015.

“We congratulate Latvia and are happy that the country has got recommendations from the European Commission on the accession to the euro zone. It proves that the Latvians keep moving towards their goal, that they have been commended and are ready to adopt the euro in 2014. We wish them success in the next stage, in the ECOFIN. We hope that Lithuania will also be successful in pursuit of its goal, that it will meet the Maastricht criteria and will be able to join the euro zone in 2015. We are making active preparations for that,” Butkevičius told BNS through his spokeswoman.
