"Pope Francis is known for his modesty, so we decided on a more modest gift from our country. The decision was made to present him with a weathercock, a symbolic piece of art, which contains the history of Lithuania as a Catholic land, which starts with baptism," the prime minister's spokeswoman Evelina Butkutė-Lazdauskienė said.
The 1.2-meter weathercock is currently being made by Vaidas Bliūdžius, a folk artist from Švėkšna, a town in western Lithuania.
Butkevičius is scheduled to visit the Vatican on September 18-19.
