Lithuanian PRT troops patrol remote area in Ghor province

Troops from the Lithuanian-led Provincial Reconstruction Team in Afghanistan's Ghor province went on patrol to remote provincial area of Shahrak last weekend, met with representatives of local authorities and brought aid to local residents.

According to the Ministry of National Defense, the village of Paymazar was the remotest place visited during patrol. It is located about 100 kilometers from the PRT base in Chaghcharan. It takes 8-10 hours to travel that distance in Afghanistan.

"The aim of the patrol mission was to extend influence of the central government and security forces in this area, visit locations of previous projects, evaluate the quality of roads and reconstruction possibilities, possibilities for the PRT and partners to carry out other development projects, the security situation," the ministry said in a statement.

During the two-day patrol, Lithuanian troops also met with representatives of local authorities and brought aid to local residents.

Currently around 2501 Lithuanian troops are deployed in various regions of Afghanistan, most of them – around 1501 – stationed in Ghor.
