Kirkilas, the head of the parliamentary European Affairs Committee, said in a press release that it is very important for Lithuania to see "Moldova strongly on the path to democracy."

"We are aiming to include Moldova into democratic forums of parliamentary cooperation," he said.

According to the press release, the issues were discussed during last week's meeting between leaders of the Lithuanian parliament and Ukrainian Parliamentary Speaker Volodymyr Rybak in Vilnius.

Moldova is part of the European Union's (EU) Eastern Partnership program, which is one of the priorities of the Lithuanian presidency over the EU Council. During the Eastern Partnership summit in Vilnius in November, Moldova expects to initial its Association and Free Trade Agreement with the EU and expects decisions about visa-free travels.
