"I know that more than half of our graduates plan and would want to study in Lithuania. I cannot say anything specific; however, as far as I know, they are interested in universities in Vilnius and Kaunas. This has been the case in earlier years as well," Marcinkevičienė told BNS.
In her words, the remaining students intend to go to universities in near-by cities in Poland.
She said merely a few Lithuanian graduates of the school entered universities in Poland's largest cities over past years. Marcinkevičienė said she had "not heard about a single case of someone going further West."
She said the bulk of those studying in Lithuania stayed in there.
This year, a total of 30 students graduated from Punsk lyceum.
The Lithuanian Education and Science Ministry approved a new scheme in April, envisaging that young people who have acquired secondary education abroad would have to compete with local applicants for state funding in Lithuanian universities but would get additional points.
