The committee registered a draft resolution taking into account the fact that September 2013 will mark 70 years since the Nazi army liquidated Vilnius Gheto.

The draft says the proposal is aimed at "commemorating this painful historic day for Lithuania and its people."

The Ministry of Culture and other state institutions will be assigned to draft a commemoration program and coordinate its implementation, and the government would be asked to allocate funds for the commemoration, according to the draft document.

Lithuania's Seimas had already declared 2013 the Year of Meilė Lukšienė, a Lithuanian scientist and the education reform pioneer, as well as the Year of Trans-Atlantic Flight of Steponas Darius and Stasys Girėnas and the Year of Wellness, Dialects and the 1863 Uprising.

There's also a proposal to declare 2013 the Year of Recovery of Klaipėda Region, marking the 90th anniversary of Lithuania's annexation of Klaipėda in 1923.
