After starting his official visit on Monday, Kubilius also noted Lithuania could learn from the reforms in the country, his office said.
The Lithuanian prime minister said that Lithuania supported Georgia even in small things – the Lithuanian Commission of the Official Language recently approved the recommendation of referring to South Ossetia as Tskhinvali, the name used in Georgia.
Stating support to Georgia's aims of joining the European Union (EU) and NATO, Kubilius said he hoped for three significant achievements from Georgia during Lithuania's EU presidency next year, namely, completion of the negotiations on the EU association treaty, a free trade agreement, and negotiation on visa-free travels to the EU. The PM emphasized that the latter two agreements should apply to Georgia's entire territory.
The Lithuanian prime minister also noted that learning was yet another goal of his coming to Georgia.
"I personally came to Georgia to learn how to make reforms, improve business environment, reform law-enforcement and successfully fight corruption. These are significant Georgian lessons that should be learned by Georgia's neighbors and us," Kubilius said.
After the meeting with the Georgian prime minister, the Lithuanian official participated in a ceremony to sign a memorandum of understanding of closer cooperation between offices of the two governments. Later Kubilius and Gilauri attended a forum of Georgian and Lithuanian local governments.
Lithuanian Prime Minister Andrius Kubilius on Monday met with Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili in his private residence and discussed international political issues, including the EU ES Eastern Neighborhood issues, the Prime Minister's Press Service said.
The Georgian president told the Lithuanian prime minister about major investment projects and government reforms underway in Georgia, and also invited Lithuanian tourists to come to Georgia.
Meanwhile the Lithuanian prime minister gave the Georgian president a fragment of Lithuanian metrics where Georgian lands were mentioned for the first time in 1465.
Later on in Tbilisi, Kubilius met with Chairman of the Georgian Parliament David Bakradze and handed over to him a copy of the State Lithuanian Language Commission's decision to recommend calling South Ossetia Tskhinvali Region.
The official visit in Georgia is expected to last three days.
