The map is intended for travellers in Lithuania interested in learning the histories of the shtetls and Jewish communities, seeing the remaining bricked and wooden synagogues, communal buildings, Jewish owned shops and other locations. It is hoped that the map will not only encourage travel around Lithuania but also interest in the history and heritage of Lithuanian Jews.
Currently, the map includes more than 200 objects around Lithuania which will be continuously updated with new objects, stories and visualisations. In the future, it is planned to offer thematic, regional and weekend routes, including not only Jewish cultural heritage objects, but also other locations of interest, accommodation and catering establishments. An English language version for foreign tourists will be launched at the end of summer 2020.
The Jewish Heritage Lithuania Route Association joins Lithuanian municipalities and other organisations together with the aim to actualise and present Jewish cultural heritage in Lithuania, aiming to encourage not only local tourism, but also foreign tourists.
