"We have send Rospotrebnadzor a request for information about the violations established by them and as soon as we receive (that information), we will analyze it and will consult with the veterinary services in the Customs Union partners, Belarus and Kazakhstan. Then, based on this information, we will make some decisions. We are not making such decisions at the moment," Rosselkhoznadzor spokesman Alexei Alekseenko told BNS by telephone.
Alekseenko said that they expected answers from the consumer rights protection service soon, but did not give a specific date.
The spokesman described the current situation as "absolutely workable".
"We are constantly monitoring Lithuanian products and are keeping in touch with the Lithuanian veterinary service. The restrictions you are speaking about were imposed by another Russian federal service, Rosportrebnadzor," he said.
The Russian veterinary service currently applies restrictions to only one out of 17 Lithuanian product suppliers to the Russian market, Alekseenko said.
Rospotrebnadzor announced on its website on Monday that it had instructed the customs office not to allow Lithuanian dairy products into the country over quality concerns.
Lithuanian officials say that they have not yet received any confirmation from Moscow.
Meanwhile Russia’s Customs Service says it has not yet been instructed by Rospotrebnadzor, the Russian consumer protection watchdog, to suspend imports of Lithuanian dairy products.
The representatives of the press service of the Federal Customs Service told BNS that the service had only received previous instructions by the head of Rospotrebnadzor to tighten checks on dairy products from Lithuania.
