According to him, 59.25 percent of all Belarusian voters registered in Lithuania voted in the Sunday elections. It amounts to almost 500 people, Puzyrny said. They could vote in Vilnius, Visaginas, northeastern Lithuania, Šalčininkai, southeastern Lithuania, and Druskininkai, southern Lithuania.
The majority of the Belarusian opposition boycotted the Sunday vote, saying that the results are pre-determined. Representatives of five Belarusian opposition parties issued a statement on Sunday stating that the general elections could not be called transparent and democratic as the executive government was interfering in the process. The statement was signed by representatives of the Belarusian Popular Front, the leftists party Just World, the Belarusian Social Democratic Party (Hramada), movement For Freedom and civil campaign Tell the Truth.
Over 290 candidates ran in the elections to the House of Representatives of 110. All incumbent lawmakers are followers of authoritarians President Alexander Lukashenko.
