"The leadership of the Defense Ministry has decided to make the three Air Force troops redundant. Relevant documents are under preparation," the ministry said in a written response to BNS.

According to the communiqué, the in-house investigation into the incident was completed on 24 June but additional data was requested.

"The additional data has been received and they corroborated the materials of the initial investigation, which revealed that the three Air Force soldiers were intoxicated and committed violations that disgraced their name as soldiers," the ministry said.

Lietuvos Ryto TV channel reported last week that the three soldiers were caught drunk while on duty in Kabul, Afghanistan, back in May. According to the report, they consumed alcohol after a flight.

All of the three have been serving in the Lithuanian Armed Forces for about 20 years.
