Touring Vilnius made easier with smartphone app

A great new travel application designed and created by the Vilnius Tourist Information Center will make getting to know the Lithuanian capital more 'handy' and IT-friendly, as Argophilia.com, the traveling portal, reports.

As reported, this application is as if a virtual Vilnius city guide enabling a tourist to use all necessary information in one place – a smart phone.

The makers of the new application, which runs on both the iPhone and Android smartphones, claim that "Vilnius Tourism" is the most comprehensive mobile application for the city yet, providing tourists with all the information they need at their fingertips to ensure their stay is as hassle free as possible, Argophilia notes.

As LETA informed, the application consists of hundreds of sightseeing objects containing information about them, supplemented with pictures, maps, and contacts. When travelling around the city the function Near Me will not let you lose our way with the help whereof it is possible to see all objects located nearby. The application is also adapted for travel planning – a user needs to select particular places and download them into the Favorites heading. The application is simple and convenient for use. Once downloaded, it will remain in the smart phone and it will be possible to read the basic information offline. In order to share the information on social networks and use additional functions or references offered in the application, the internet is necessary.

Vilnius Tourism works in a similar fashion to many other travel apps. It uses the tried and tested interactive map format, overlaid with hundreds of interesting tourist sites, as well as the location of hotels, restaurants, bars, shops – you name it, you can find it with this app. Each destination featured comes with a short description and an image, as well as travel information so that users can identify the fastest way to reach it from their location.

One of the more helpful features of the app is the 'Near Me' function. Click on this and the app immediately throws up all the points of interest within a 15 minute walk of the user's location. The app also allows for favorite places to be saved and highlighted permanently on the map, while sharing through social networks like Facebook is possible with an internet connection, Argophilia writes.

The application will hopefully be of practical use for both, foreign tourists and residents of Vilnius and whole Lithuania, and will become one the most popular applications about Vilnius for mobile phones. Using the application guests will be able to feel safe, and find new ideas for leisure time, as representatives of the Vilnius Tourist Information Center told.
