Some 54,300 nationals emigrated last year, which is 28,800 fewer than in 2010. Nearly half of the emigrants (44 percent) are young people of 20 to 29.
According to the statistics, main emigration destinations include the United Kingdom (47 percent of all emigrants), Ireland (10 percent), Norway and Germany (7 percent each).
About 14,000 Lithuanian citizens repatriated in 2011, which shows a rise by a factor of three year-on-year.
Some 3.199 million people resided in Lithuania at the end of 2011, down by 45,300 from the beginning of the year.
