The organization's expansion to Lithuania and Ukraine was announced during the annual congress in San Antonio, Texas, earlier this week, the Lithuanian Embassy to the US said.
"Catholics of the US and the rest of the world directly contributed to liberating us from Communism, we now have to reinforce our civil society, as a strong citizen means a strong state," Lithuania's Ambassador to the US Žygimantas Pavilionis said at the event.
Lithuanian Archbishop Gintaras Grušas, who was also present at the congress, said the decision to open in Lithuania will help enhance the protection of Christian values in Lithuania and a higher degree of inclusion in active social activities.
Founded in 1800s, the organization pursues its main values of charity, volunteering and protection of Christian values. With its 2 million members across the globe, it is the world's largest organization of the type.
