"Your energy success is important for the US both strategically and economically. We support your efforts as EU member-states to diversify energy sources and create a more transparent energy market," the vice-president said in an article published in Lithuania's Lietuvos Rytas daily on Friday.

The article is published during the visit of the Lithuanian, Latvian and Estonian presidents in the US. Later on Friday, the three Baltic leaders are planned to meet with Biden and US President Barack Obama.

"The United States can share their unique experience in energy," said Biden, emphasizing that the Baltic states' cooperation with Northern neighbors by way of innovative methods for energy independence is an achievement for all.

In the vice-president's words, the economic relations between the US and the Baltic states should reach the level of close defense cooperation.
