The organizers say Vilnius Film Shorts has evolved into the largest short film festival in the Baltic states.
"This year the festival is the biggest one over the past seven years. Films have come from four continents and 27 countries and formed our competition programmes," festival director Rimantė Daugėlaitė told BNS on Wednesday.
This year, 10 competition programmes with 60 films from almost 1,000 candidates were prepared for the festival. Short films of various genres and topics are included into the competition programmes. The films were previously presented at key European and global film festivals in Berlin, Cannes, Rotterdam, Clermont-Ferrand, São Paulo, Florida, and Chicago.
The Jonas Mekas retrospective is made up of 10 short films. Their screening marks the start of Mekas' 90th anniversary jubilee.
"Besides these special programmes, the festival has a huge sensation. We are glad to introduce a completely new project to the Lithuanian people – KINOAUTOMAT. It’s the world's first interactive film where people have the chance to decide its progress," Daugėlaitė said.
"People get voting remotes and after some time, the movie stops and they can vote on how they want the main character to act. The majority determines the character's actions," the festival director said.
The festival will take place on 6-9 September.
