Kaunas Mayor Andrius Kupčinskas said the municipality would most probably decide on the issue in February.

"I have received a letter from Žalgiris. It’s a kind of letter of courtesy, and next week we'll see what their request is. (…) Wishes are always good, but we need to take a sober look into the options," he said.

In 2012, Kaunas Municipality provided LTL 2.9 million to Žalgiris.

Žalgiris communication director Almantas Kiveris told delfi.lt the club "needs strong and urgent financial support from the city of Kaunas as never before."

Kaunas authorities are expected to distribute LTL 5 million among the city's sports clubs this year, the same amount as last year.
