Žalgiris Kaunas wins Lithuanian Basketball League championship

Žalgiris Kaunas club won the Lithuanian Basketball League championship after defeating Lietuvos Rytas Vilnius 90:84 in the third finals match at home on Sunday evening.

After winning the series 3-0, Žalgiris won the Lithuanian Basketball League gold rings for the second consecutive year and the 14th time in the history of the league.

Žalgiris was victorious in the first game of the series 71:56, winning the second in Vilnius 86:76.

This was the 14th league finals since 1999 involving Žalgiris and Lietuvos Rytas.

The winners who have already been champions in 1994-1999, 2001, 2003-2005, 2007, 2008 and 2011 received the main prize from Lithuanian Basketball Federation president Arvydas Sabonis.

This year's bronze medals went to Rūdupis Prienai, which defeated Šiauliai in the small finals.
