LSMU rated Lithuania’s best university in international rankings

The Lithuanian University of Health Sciences (LSMU) has earned a high position in the newest edition of the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings, ranking among the world’s 601-800 best higher education institutions, the highest recognition earned by a Lithuanian university this year.

“This is a pleasant piece of news for the university at the start of of the new academic year. We are an international university compliant with the highest standards, and today we are witnessing the results of continued, consistent and comprehensive work based on the principle of unity between studies, science and clinical practice, which the entire university community contributed to,” says LSMU rector prof. Rimantas Benetis.

In forming the rankings, the LSMU received the highest evaluation of 75 points in terms of the citations criterion - the rankings’ creators indicate that this reflects the global influence of the higher education institution’s scientific work, and the scope of its distribution of knowledge and ideas.

The LSMU also stood out in terms of the international outlook criterion with 53 points. This refers to the higher education institution’s achievements at an international level, as well as its ability to attract undergraduate and postgraduate students from around the world.

LSMU is currently one of the most international universities in Lithuania, with almost 20 per cent of its students hailing from overseas, attracting students from Israel, Sweden, Germany and India.

The university was also recognised as an institution which contributes to the development of industry through its innovations, inventions and consultations. Based on the industry income criterion, the university was awarded 35 points.

This is not the first time LSMU was noted in the prestigious global university rankings - last year’s QS World University Rankings by Subject 2020 saw the institution recognised as one of the world’s 550 best higher education institutions for studying medicine.

In the 2019 QS Emerging Europe and Central Asia – EECA Rankings, the LSMU found itself among the top 31 per cent of the best higher education institutions in the region.
