These companies include the following shops and brands: NS King, Danija, Salamander, Geox, Step Top, Audimas, Vaga, Sparta, D. MO, CR7, Vero Coffee, Delimano, Dormeo, Aistra and Doklas. In Lithuania alone, Pigu.lt has already signed contracts with more than 250 shops.
'This is a development that we deliberately started last year, but the quarantine has given a significant boost. We now mobilise businesses in the three Baltic countries, both well-known brands and small businesses, and help them reach their customers. Every week, we register around 100 new companies interested in selling their products at the online shopping centre, therefore more good news is still to come. Customers will no longer need to wander around on the internet. Everyone's favourite shops are now accessible by typing in a single address', said Pigu's CEO, Dainius Liulys.
In addition to that, today Pigu announced that the company is beginning to sell various food products: the list includes cereal, pasta, canned food, coffee, sweets, spices, nuts and dried fruits, soups, snacks, UHT milk, baby food and other products.
'That’s another step in our pursuit to offer our customers the possibility to buy everything thay need in one place. In this difficult period food products are very important part of the shopping basket. Its is important that we can deliver orders anywhere in Lithuania, which is not the usual case in food delivery market,' said Mr. Liulys.
According to Pigu's CEO, whilst online shopping has become a matter of safety for many, the current situation will permanently change people's habits.
'A survey ordered by our partners Open Agency revealed that during the first week of self-isolation, 27 percent of the respondents used e-commerce for the first time. Shopping on the internet without stepping outside your home with easy access to all desired goods in one place has already become a reality. The more they become acquainted to this type of shopping, the more they demand it from traders. Therefore an online shopping centre was a logical progression,' said Mr. Liulys.
What commodities are people most often buying during quarantine?
In recent weeks, sales at Pigu.lt have increased by more than 100 percent compared to the same period last year. According to Mr. Liulys, the demand for some goods during quarantine has increased particularly, and businesses can benefit from it.
'Naturally, a huge increase in the demand for health and safety products has been observed. Other popular products include toys, leisure and other children's merchandise, gardening supplies such as greenhouses or lawnmowers and outdoor furniture. An increase in demand has also been observed for sports equipment and outdoor leisure products such as trampolines, slides, sand boxes, grills and electric scooters,' continued Liulys.
Increasing numbers of orders bring security and efficiency into focus
Responding to the current emergency situation, the Pigu team took measures to ensure the continuous movement of goods and the safety of both its employees and its customers. These included abandoning cash payments, turning shops into pick-up points, providing personal protective equipment for staff and organising warehouse shifts so that the workers on different shifts don't come in contact with each other.
As the workload of delivery partners increased and delivery deadlines became longer, Pigu.lt provided solutions in order to deliver goods as quickly and conveniently as possible. In Alytus, Marijampolė and Mažeikiai mobile pick-up points were launched, and a new, more convenient and better-located pick-up point opened in Kaunas. The company also plans to expand its network of self-service terminals.
