Quarantine at home: a chance to try yourself in the role of basketball coach

Presently it is a difficult period in Lithuania - for the first time, the whole country is under quarantine. This period, which will continue for at least a few more weeks, makes everyone look for new activities. All cultural and sports events are closed, it is forbidden to gather together even outside. Therefore, more and more people are looking for possibilities to transfer their favourite activities to the virtual space. One of such possibilities is the “BasketPulse” online basketball manager game, which is created and developed in Lithuania.

Possibility to become a coach

“This online basketball manager is a chance to test yourself in the role of a basketball club manager. Due to the quarantine, all sport events are closed, thus it is a difficult time for basketball lovers. We cannot cheer for our favourite team but we can lead our own team and try to reach the top level of this virtual basketball world,” says the founder of the game Darius Mikužaitis

“BasketPulse” is a free online game with an alternative basketball life. Registered user are granted a basketball club and become its manager. They have to take care of the team by tuning all the elements – strengthen the team rosters, raising young talents, finding the best tactics for matches, dealing with finances and much more. Everything is just like in real life. The aim of the game is to make one's club the best in his country and maybe even in the whole virtual world.

“The game is a reflection of real basketball and it involves many aspects of managing a basketball club. It is important to deal with finances, take care of players, find new talents, sign good contracts and attract spectators to watch matches. It is fun to see how the club's talents improve, how the team performs. However, it is quite a challenging task - all managers do their best to win. The process attracts and reveals the life of a real team manager,” says Darius Mikužaitis.

Even professional basketball players play the game

This interactive game is popular in the whole world - it is played by people from many countries. The biggest communities are from China, Lithuania, the USA and Argentina. Also there are many active players from Greece, Spain, Italy, France and other countries. For a long time, this virtual basketball world was dominated by Lithuanians. However, lately Chinese players have become very active and already surpassed Lithuanians with their achievements. US and Argentinian players are also close on the heels.

When asked, what people this game is intended for, Darius Mikužaitis answers that all basketball lovers are welcome. He says that among the active players, there are various age people with different professions: basketball coaches, professional basketball players, referees, politicians, doctors, students and others. The game is played by older and by younger people. Though it is worth mentioning that the game is quite complex, so it may be a bit too complicated for the youngest basketball lovers.

“BasketPulse” founder, who has been developing it for many years, says: “Most players get involved and manage their teams for a long time. We have players, who have been with us since the very beginning, thus - all 12 years.” He says that “BasketPulse” is not only a game. It is a great way to spend time, also get better acquainted with the life of basketball clubs and people working in them. Aside from this, game members also get into a big basketball fans community, where you can join discussions or even find friends.

Why is it worth joining the “BasketPulse” community?

• The game can be played absolutely FREE.

• It is easy to login and play the game on any computer, tablet or mobile phone.

• You can give your name and surname to the most talented player of the team.

• You don’t have to be connected all the time. You can play whenever you want and spend as much time as you want.

• It is a great place for finding friends and discussing because the majority of players are true basketball fans.

• You can not only lead your team but also actively participate in your country community’s activities.

• It is created and developed in Lithuania - the country where basketball is sport No.1

Briefly about the history of the game

The game is created for true basketball fans, therefore it was born in the family of true basketball lovers. Until now the game is maintained and developed by husband and wife. Over many years the hobby turned into family business. “We both are very interested in basketball and play basketball in our free time. In the years of study my husband was interested in everything related with basketball, including computer games. After trying to play all basketball manager games that were present at that time, he decided that neither is realistic enough. Therefore he started to create a new game that would be the most similar to the real basketball world. At that time he was still a first year student. A bit later I also got interested and joined the development of the game. Eventually, this virtual basketball world attracted me and brought me a lot of surprises,” the game’s story is recounted by Ramunė Mikužaitienė, one of the developers.

The family devotes a big part of their life to basketball and constantly follows its news. Ramunė Mikužaitienė says that with time the hobby turned into business but it still brings a lot of pleasure: “In the beginning we participated in a few contests, we have won the nomination of the most prospective project. In the beginning it was a hobby and only later, when the number of game members increased, it turned into business. Though it never ceased to be our hobby. Over the many years on this project there have been ups and downs. Especially, a lot of challenges appeared when the family got bigger. However, our love for basketball didn’t vanish and the “BasketPulse” project is still very precious to us. We invest in it without calculating our time or efforts.”
