Handre Pollard scored 19 points as South Africa defeated Scotland 34-16.South Africa scored three tries, from Schalk Burger, JP Pietersen and Bryan Habana, to go top of Pool B at St James' Park on Saturday but they were pushed all the way after Scotland launched a second-half fightback.Vern Cotton's error-strewn Scotland team seemed out of the game when they went in 20-3 down at half-time but a penalty from Greig Laidlaw and a try against the run of play from wing Tommy Seymour, after a break by Duncan Weir, breathed new life into the Scots. Laidlaw's conversion made it 20-13. It had seemed that South Africa were cruising at half-time. Heyneke Meyer's rampaging team - showing three changes from the 46-6 victory over Samoa - saw a try from Burger and supreme kicking from Handre Pollard put them in control. But with 20 minutes left of the second half Scotland began to play as they did in their previous two victories over USA and Samoa.Weir assumed the kicking duties with Laidlaw off for a yellow card to kick Scotland back into it at 23-16 but Pollard restored the Springboks' lead to 10 points. In a tense finale, South Africa wrapped it up with a try from Bryan Habana (pictured) in the 74th minute. It was his 61st test try.Follow World Rugby on social media:Official Website! http://www.rugbyworldcup.com,SUBSCRIBE to our YouTube Channel For More Great Videos https://youtube.com/user/irb,Follow us on Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/rugbyworldcup,Like us on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/rugbyworldcup and https://www.facebook.com/worldrugby,Follow us on Instagram: http://www.instagram.com/worldrugby,
