Liquid Metal Marbles | RMIT University

Researchers at RMIT University have created "liquid metal marbles" -- droplets of liquid metal coated in nanoparticles -- in a world-first breakthrough that advances research into soft electronics and industrial sensing technologies. This video shows the behaviour of a liquid metal marble BEFORE its surface is coated with inorganic nanoparticles, and AFTER. The liquid metal marbles are like flexible ball bearings with extraordinary physical properties - enduring high impacts without disintegrating and tolerating high temperatures. They operate like semiconducting-conducting systems -- the base of transistors -- and are compatible with micro and nano-fluidic systems.
