Mini Outspan Orange Year 1972 Country British Capacity 998cc Cylinders In-line 4 Valves Overhead Output 41hp @ 4,850rpm Maximum speed 30mph/48.28kph Price new Not marketed Manufacturer Brian Waite Enterprise Ltd Outspan commissioned six of these advertising vehicles between 1972 and 1974. They used them extensively for advertising campaigns in this country, France and Germany. One example is still in use in South Africa. The basis of the car is the versatile Mini, though a specially fabricated chassis is used. At over 30mph/48.28kph, there was a tendency for these vehicles to roll! https://www.beaulieu.co.uk/ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Motor_Museum,_Beaulieu http://nostalgiacentral.com/pop-culture/fads/outspan-orange-mini/ The Outspan Orange car was shaped like an orange, had orange skin-textured bodywork, and looked like an orange but was, in fact a Mini (albeit a highly-modified Mini). Six of the customised minis were commissioned by Outspan from a company called Brian Waite Enterprise Ltd, based at Bodium in East Sussex. They were built between 1972 and 1974 and were used in advertising campaigns in the UK and on the Continent. The car had a top speed of 30 mph (it became unstable above 30 and prone to roll over). One of the original Outspan Minis is now situated at the National Motor Museum at Beaulieu and often used for promotions in Britain, while another of the six is known to be based in South Africa. http://www.thisbrighton.co.uk/culture-hcvs-outspan.htm https://www.flickr.com/photos/jane_sanders/3941319365 http://www.nationalmotormuseum.org.uk/?location_id=335&item=165
