This is a collection of footage taken in Hutan Tapanuli (Batang Toru), North Sumatra by staff of Yayasan Ekosistem Lestari (YEL) and the Sumatran Orangutan Conservation Program (SOCP). This video showcases years of stored footage of the Orangutan population in Hutan Tapanuli. This island of primary forest and wildlife covers around 130,000 hectares and is beset by human encroachment, mining concessions and illegal hunting. Hutan Tapanuli is not widely known about on a global scale or even within Indonesia for that matter. This video will be part of a series posted on this channel which will showcase the biodiversity of this special forest, in the hope that YEL, Pan-Eco, SOCP and other contributing NGOs will be able to secure its future as a haven for rare flora and fauna.
