Canadian sniper ‘Wali’ on what it's like fighting on the frontline in Ukraine

Reports of a famed Canadian sniper’s demise at the hand of Russian forces in Ukraine have proved premature. The man known as “Wali” and dubbed by some online news sites as the “deadliest sniper in the world” spoke with the Star in a video interview Tuesday in which he said he had been “the last to learn” of his own death. In addition to being alive, Wali disputes the idea that he is the world’s greatest sniper, pointing out that while he’s good, there are some “amazing” snipers in Ukraine. “You know, a month ago, I was a coder, programming. I don’t have any recent sniper training,” he said. He stays in shape while back in Canada, but it’s hard to be the best when you’re not training every single week, he said.
