AMAZING Curious Cat Tries to Befriend Shy Baby Deer
Amazing footage has emerged from Canada of a cat appearing to befriend a baby deer.
Be my deerest friend! Curious cat sidles up to wild fawn - but almost gets trampled in the process
A fascinating amateur wildlife video shows a domestic cat trying to befriend a wild deer.
The footage, shot in Winnipeg, Canada, captures a tabby confidently strolling towards a fawn, which is wandering around a rural neighborhood seemingly lost.
Despite the feline's continuous attempts to get close, the deer cautiously reverses and stamps its feet.
At one point the dear rears away, with its hooves just inches away from the cat's head.
Its bushy tail also appears erect - another sign that it feels threatened.
The video was taken by the cat's owner, who stood back and watched the 'making friends session' unfold.
She keeps calling out the cat by it by its name, 'Jelly', in a fervent attempt to get it away from the deer - more than four times its size.
'I think he's a little afraid of you but he wants to know you,' she is heard saying.
Indeed, when Jelly the cat gives up and walks away the deer then starts following.
There is a brief moment when the two animals stop and maintain eye-to-eye contact.
But as soon as Jelly puts a paw forward, the whole back-and-forth routine plays out again.
In the end the pet goes back to its owner.
Last year a house cat in Pennsylvania had more luck in befriending a deer and photographs captured them happily hanging out together.
One image even showed the orange tom cat balancing on the deer's head, gently wrapping its front paws around its hoofed friend's neck.
