MORE ABOUT THE VIDEO
In a direct attack on Trump, Mikhail Baryshnikov warns voters about “dangerous totalitarian opportunists like Donald Trump” and likens the GOP nominee’s rhetoric to that of a Soviet dictator.
Baryshnikov said of his participation, “While watching the presidential election unfold, and hearing Donald Trump’s flirtations with the Kremlin, I feel compelled to add my voice to the mix - specifically regarding immigration - something I am obviously familiar with. I have never publicly endorsed a political candidate before, or inserted myself into politics in any way other than by voting, but this video is a direct call to action: We must elect Hillary Clinton as president in November.”
The video was directed by Humanity for Hillary Co-Founder and Executive Director Laura Dawn, who said of Baryshnikov’s involvement, “Donald Trump’s supporters should know that Putin’s Russia is a country where artists, activists, journalists, and LGBTQ people have been beaten, arrested, and killed. Yet Donald Trump speaks glowingly of Putin and, as we just learned, Trump’s campaign chair Paul Manafort has troubling pro-Russian ties.”
Dawn continued, “We are honored to work with Mikhail Baryshnikov, Russia’s most celebrated artist-in-exile, speaking out against Trump and on behalf of Hillary Clinton to send a crucial message to voters about how much is at stake in the coming election.”
Humanity for Hillary is a social media campaign created to organize artists and craft a movement building culture behind electing Hillary Clinton as the first woman president. By creating shareable content underscoring Hillary’s progressive history, the group is working to counter more than 20 years of right wing attacks. Their first video, “#ThisIsWhatMyRevolutionLooksLike” starring Lena Dunham, Rosie Perez, Hill Harper, Taylor Schilling, Natasha Lyonne, Uzo Aduba and more, has reached nearly 16 million people online.
