7624/A: LEBANON: THE SYRIAN INTERVENTION
15 mins 36 secs (English synch: Nil)
The 1976 Syrian intervention in the Lebanon has
brought a new phase in the fourteen month old civil
war, as Syrian troops battle with the left wing Moslem
and Palestinian alliance. With Lebanese attempts at
working out a ceasefire between the Moslems and
Christians having failed once again, the Syrian
government's attempt to impose a solution of its own
has met with strong opposition and has led for the first
time to a concerted attempt by the Arab states as a
whole to work out a settlement to the conflict.
