Tasmanian police look for bushfires victims

Police look through the burnt out remains of houses as bushfires continue to rage throughout the Australian state of Tasmania. Firefighters continued to battle bushfires throughout the Australian state of Tasmania. Temperatures and winds have eased since Friday but are expected to rise again through Monday and Tuesday. In the area around Forcett, east of Hobart, which bore the brunt of Friday's blaze, police are now searching rubble to determine whether anyone has died. Police said late on Sunday that about 100 people remain missing, with several hundred displaced by the bushfires. Scott Tilyard, Acting Tasmanian Police Commissioner, said there are teams on the ground "going through the process of having to go door-to-door, literally on every fire damaged property" -- including shacks, houses and outbuildings -- "confirming that there are no people who have lost their lives at that particular location."
