Tessa Evans, two, stole the hearts of millions last year when pictures of her beaming little face were shared. A two-year-old born without a nose has become the first ever person to have a cosmetic nasal implant fitted to help create the missing appendage. Tessa Evans, from Maghera, Ireland Tessa Evans was born with arhinia, meaning she has no nose, no sense of smell and no sinuses - but she can cough, sneeze and catch a cold Is the first person to have a special cosmetic nasal implant fitted Over the years it will encourage a new 'nose' to grow out of stretched skin She will have a final nasal prosthetic fitted when she is a teenager Toddler born without a nose becomes first ever patient to receive ground-breaking 3D prosthesis. An adorable toddler who was born without a nose has become the first person to ever receive a cosmetic nasal implant. The cute tot was born with an extremely rare condition called complete congenital arhinia, which means she has no nose. But Tessa, from Maghera in Ireland, has just had the first stages of a prosthesis as part of the process to create her very own nose using a 3D printer. Her parents Grainne, 31, and Nathan, 33, had to make a tough decision to start the process now instead of waiting until Tessa was older to avoid more invasive surgery. From now on, Tessa will undergo surgery every couple of years to make sure her nose 'grows' at the same rate as the rest of her body. When she reaches her teenage years a final prosthesis will be fitted. To make the nose, a plastic surgeon used 3D printing to make a model of Tessa's skull and then used a modelling clay to design a small nose that fits to her face underneath the skin. It is inserted via an incision behind her hairline, eliminating scarring on her face. Tessa's condition is so rare that there are only 47 cases reported in medical history. Tessa has no sense of smell and no sinuses but she can cough, sneeze and catch a cold. The condition was detected during the 20-week scan which showed Tessa had an abnormally flat facial profile.
