Thomas and Irene Howard Two elderly sweethearts who have been inseparable for 84 years have revealed the secret of a long marriage is to show ''respect and good manners'' towards others. The childhood sweethearts from Preston, Lancashire became best friends in 1931 after living four doors away from each other and were apart only when he was called up aged 19 during World War Two. They married in 1945 after VE day and have now celebrated their platinum 70th wedding anniversary.
