Alanas Chosnau & Mark Reeder
Why? (Mark Reeder’s Heartache Mix)
Why? Is the first release taken from Life Everywhere, the new album by Alanas and Mark.
The video depicts a desperate couple on the run. Are they being chased by foreign forces?
Or are they running away from a totalitarian society in search of a happier life?
Video director Emily Jade Hagen has created a contemporary but poignant image
of people on the run, an image we are all too familiar with these days.
Why? begins with a melancholic surge of balalaikas and dulcimers to create an Eastern European feeling, which harks back to the childhood years of Alanas, while he was growing up in the Soviet Union, having fled from war torn Iraq during the military dictatorship of Saddam Hussain.
Alanas knows only too well what it is like to be a child refugee, running away to an uncertain future in a foreign land.
We filmed this video on a deserted farm in the middle of Brandenburg.
The shoot started well, with us not being able to find our driver at the railway station,
Then upon our arrival at the Charlottenhof, we got moaned at by a very angry bull and vigourously clucked at by a clutch of cheery chickens.
The interior was very rustical, with a vast array of animal skulls covering one bile green wall.
The fun began while we were filming in the woods. It ended up with us driving off, leaving our timid director Emily alone in the forest, surrounded by boars, foxes and wolves, while we drove around in the sunset.
The car kept stalling again and again, and at one point we ended up completely blocking the road, eventually the car refused to get into reverse gear and Mark ended up pushing it out of the way!
By the time we had finished shooting our scenes, it was pitch black and all the entrances to the forest looked the same. Consequently, we got lost…

Lyrics:
Alanas Chosnau & Mark Reeder Why?
Lying right beside me
Your skin shines in the light
Our hopes and fears
Were washed in sadness
For wrong, is never right
Standing by your window
Silence all around
No beating Heart
Or stirring movement
You said,
We’d never part
Why does my heart feel so sad?
You never asked me questions
Just to calm it all
Why does my heart, ache so bad?
My love was killed with kindness
Now you’ve left it all
You found it easy
To lie to my face
Your chance to prove it all
You found it easy
to waste all my space
No time to lose it all
The sirens all around us
It’s time for me, to hide
The running sounds
Will end my freedom
For wrong is never right
You found it easy
To lie to my face
Your chance to prove it all
You found it easy to waste all my space
No time to lose it all
Why does my heart feel so sad?
You always hurt my feelings
But you never saw…
Why does my heart ache so bad?
My love, was killed through madness
Now you’ve left it all
Why does my heart feel so sad?
I never asked you questions
Just to damn it all
Why does my heart ache so bad?
I killed our love with kindness
Now you’ve left it all.
